The New Indian Bride

A bride-to-be with a new perspective on the modern Indian wedding.

A Perfect Trip To The Moon With My Honey! March 9, 2011

Filed under: Honeymoon,Mini Moon — The New Indian Wife @ 8:00 am

It took us seven months but the New Indian Bride and her Leading Man FINALLY went on their much delayed honeymoon and what a honeymoon it was!   Like more and more newlyweds, we delayed our official honeymoon for several months after our big day.  This proved to be an excellent decision for us.  While we got some rest and relaxation during our mini-moon soon after the wedding, we decided to hold off on the official honeymoon until we had more time (and more energy) to plan for and enjoy a getaway.  Like many of our fellow Indian Brides and Grooms, there was simply no time to jet off to an exotic location with beaches and frosty beverages right after the wedding.  After taking time off to travel to India for our official engagement (and of course do all of my wedding shopping!) and then taking even more time off surrounding our big day, there were simply no more vacation days left!  This turned out to be a blessing in disguise.  The ability to plan our honeymoon and anticipate its arrival outside the context of planning a wedding was such an exciting and fun process for us that we wouldn’t have had it any other way.

So where did we go, you ask?  After a fabulous 10 days in India with My Leading Man’s family (more on that in a future blog post), we jetted to Thailand and Hong Kong where we ate, drank, shopped, walked, explored and enjoyed every little moment of every day of our trip.

It was the perfect trip to the moon with my honey!

Post Script: I just re-read my mini-moon post where I question whether or not to continue my blog.  Ironically, on my delayed honeymoon I was asking myself the same question! What will The New Indian Bride do?  Fear not readers, I am going to keep blogging my little heart out.  More on how TNIB will evolve coming soon!

Trend Alert – The Delayed Honeymoon! December 13, 2010

Filed under: Mini Moon — The New Indian Wife @ 10:30 am

The New Indian Bride is literally doing backflips in front of her computer today! That’s because My Leading Man and I have booked our much delayed honeymoon.  In a little over a month we will be in Thailand and Hong Kong petting baby tigers, exploring Buddhas of varying sizes and eating all the Pad Thai and Dim Sum we can get our hands on.

We did however sneak away for a mini-moon soon after our wedding (and had a few subsequent mini-moons since) but the true honeymoon is now within sight and we couldn’t be more excited!

As I shared plans for our delayed honeymoon, I quickly found that many newlyweds are doing the same.  For the recently married Indian Bride and Groom it can be a logistical challenge to schedule enough days off to accommodate both a multi-day Indian wedding and a long and leisurely honeymoon.  Further, with guests traveling all over the world to partake in your wedding festivities, many couples want to stay local to spend time with their guests even after the wedding is over.  Not to mention, that with all the commotion of planning a wedding there is hardly any time, energy (or in our case budget) to plan a honeymoon.

So to all you New Indian Brides, feel free to delay that honeymoon to a time that suits your schedules and truly allows you to enjoy wherever it is you decide to go.  It’s going to be just as sweet no matter when it happens.

And They Live Happily Ever After (and so does TNIB!) July 20, 2010

My Leading Man and I just returned from a perfectly blissful honeymoon (or “mini-moon” as he preferred to call it).  We enjoyed a lovely weekend in Monterey and Carmel along California’s central coast.  Super romantic, totally indulgent and thoroughly relaxing.  We discovered fabulous central coast wineries, ate the best crème brule outside of Paris, perused beautiful coastal boutiques and indulged our eyes with antiques and household treasures from the world over.  We enjoyed the sunshine, the ocean and the day dreams that follow being hand in hand with the one you love.

Even while minimooning, I was thinking of TNIB.  My readers joined me on the road from Miss to Mrs with more encouragement and support than I ever imaged.  The last few weeks I have been contemplating the future of TNIB and even solicited your help.  And help you did! TNIB readers voted overwhelmingly for me to keep writing TNIB (57%) and many asked me to start a new blog (35%). Your comments, emails and personal conversations were inspiring.

Apparently, nearly 6500 hits to the blog do not lie.

You like what I have to say sooooooo I am pleased to announce that I plan to keep saying it!  I will chronicle my life as a Newlywed (being a daughter in law, learning to make prontas, decorating our home, unpacking wedding gifts and dealing with all the ups and downs that are sure to make up the first year of marriage).  I will also continue feature new, unique and economical twists to the typical Indian wedding.  I am on the quest to change the landscape of Indian weddings from the over the top, ostentatious displays we typically see to the more personal, more elegant, simplified weddings that I love.

I hope you will continue to join me on this journey! To keep up with TNIB please either subscribe to the blog (see link on the right side of the home page), follow me on twitter @newindianbride and on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/The-New-Indian-Bride/137879446232424?ref=sgm.

As My Leading Man says, we are just getting started.
